The new government of Indonesia plans to expand the Navy in order to better protect the country's extensive islands and vast ocean areas. The Navy has announced that its 15,000-man Marine Corps will be increased to 25,000 men, and will form a third brigade to be based at Teluk Ratai, the new Naval base in southern Sumatra. The existing two brigades are based in Jakarta and Surabaya. --Stephen V Cole
