 The government and Aceh rebels are holding emergency peace talks in the face of increasing violence in Aceh. The rebels insist they are firing in self-defense, as troops enter "rebel controlled" territory to conduct military and police operations. A soldier was killed today in such an incident. The army insists that it can still patrol Aceh to maintain law and order and that areas the rebels say they control are not under rebel control.
