The religious conservatives that control the police have ordered the cops to crack down on private parties where alcohol, dancing and unveiled women are present. Cafes that allow women without chaperones are also being raided. This is making the police more unpopular, and less reliable (the cops have a hard time doing their jobs if most of the population openly dislikes them.)
