Millions of Iranians came out to celebrate the pre-Moslem  Tchahar-Shanbe Souri (Fire Festival.) The Islamic conservatives have always tried to suppress this traditional celebration of Spring. In recent years, efforts to stop the fire festival have been less successful. It is feared that one year, the fire festival will trigger the beginning of an armed revolution against Islamic rule. To avoid that, Islamic thugs were restrained in most parts of the country.
