There are now about 130,000 American troops in Iraq, almost all of them from the U.S. Army. Not counted are Special Forces, although there are apparently 3-4,000 of these in the country. Major units in Iraq are the 1st Armored Division, the 4th Infantry Division, the 101st Airborne Division, a brigade from the 82nd Airborne Division, the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, the 173rd Airborne Brigade, and the V (Fifth) Corps headquarters. Some 40,000 of these troops are in Baghdad. There are 15,600 in southeastern Iraq, 11,900 in south-central Iraq, 9,800 in north central Iraq, 39,100 in north central Iraq (the "Sunni Triangle" where most of the attacks on U.S. troops take place) and 20,600 in northern Iraq. There are some 20,600 non-American troops, mostly in southern Iraq.
