Iraqi leaders are demanding the Saddam be tried in Iraq for his crimes. UN and European leaders are insisting on an international tribunal, asserting that the Iraqis are not competent to try Saddam. It is thought that several European nations that had legal, and illegal, commercial and military relationships with Saddam would not want to see Saddam tried in a situation they could not influence.
