The US has agreed to move it's Yongsan military base from downtown Seoul (thus freeing 800 acres of very valuable real estate for commercial development) to another area much farther from the DMZ. There are also plans to move American combat troops from the DMZ to another are much farther south. There is a lot of enthusiasm in the US and South Korea for withdrawing American troops entirely.
