Fighting against LURD rebels in the north intensified. A senior Liberian officer was reported killed while trying to rally troops. The government says it has things under control, but other sources report that the government has lost control of much of the border area. Guinea is accused of supporting the rebels. It also appears that Guinea is doing this partially to keep the rebels (who often act like bandits) from attacking Guinean civilians.
