The UN is dismayed at the fact that only 11,000 rifles and pistols, many of them not in working order, have been turned in so far. Last year, the UN estimated that there were over 100,000 firearms in the country. On a more positive note, four million rounds of ammunition have been surrendered. But even in areas that are considered secure, armed men will show up and establish roadblocks to extort money from passing traffic (including UN or foreign aid workers.)
