Maoist
demands that the monarchy be abolished have backfired. The political parties
agreed to give it a shot, and brought the issue to parliament. But there aren't
enough votes there to get it done. Meanwhile, most of the violence is down
south, where the ethnic Indian groups along the border continue to battle police,
Maoists and each other. Maoist radicals (younger rebels, often disobeying their
elders) are not numerous enough to overwhelm the many other radical groups that
are now in play. The Maoists began a revolution, but are now in danger of drowning in it.
