Voting on ruling party candidates for national elections is causing widespread violence. Those who can get elected, and late become a government official, have access to patronage and corruption opportunities. Despite calls for eliminating corruption, enough people are still attracted to it to cause the organization of armed gangs to fight for places on the ballot. The vote is this Sunday, and violence is expected to increase.
