In the Delta region, police clashed with one of the tribe based criminal gangs, leaving ten Ijaw men dead. The army and navy have been cracking down on the gangs, and their main source of income; smuggling stolen (from pipelines and storage areas) oil. In the last week, nearly three dozen gang members have been arrested and many weapons seized.
