Nationwide riots over a 30 percent rise in fuel prices left at least three dead and dozens injured. Fuel prices are subsidized, and were $1.43 a gallon for gas. This cost large losses for the government, which has to import refined gasoline at world prices. The new price is $1.86 a gallon.
