On Basilan, troops caught up with several dozen Abu Sayyaf.  Three rebels were killed and many more wounded as the rebels fled.  In the south, troops caught up with former MILF who are holding four Chinese and one Filipino. In the gun battle, two of the Chinese were killed  by their captors and one was rescued. The kidnappers used their remaining captives as shields and got away. Local villagers had tipped off the troops.
