MNLF rebels moved out of their compound. The fighting left 25 rebels, a soldier and a civilian dead. The rebels moved to a residential area and took about a hundred civilians hostage. MNLF rebels loyal to Nur Misuari have offered to exchange 40 of their 90 hostages for free passage to Basilan island. The government has refused to cooperate. The MNLF rebels did release 21 of their hostages as they used the remaining hostages as shields. The rebels moved to a hill overlooking the  Zamboanga airport.
