Some 80 percent of the American troops sent to the Philippines to assist in anti-terror operations are support forces. These troops will take care of supply, transportation and medical care. About 160 of the troops will provide training and advisory services to the Filipinos. Only 80 of the Americans are special forces. The U.S. troops are also giving the Filipinos some $100 million worth of equipment (most of it used and reconditioned), including a C-130 transport, eight helicopters, over a hundred night vision goggles, 30,000 M-16 rifles and a 175 foot patrol ship.
