An army officer, working in plainclothes to arrange the surrender of some NPA rebels, was killed by an NPA assassin. The NPA hit squads have been active lately, killing NPA members suspected to planning defection, as well as army and police officials who are encouraging the defections and surrenders. Many NPA members are getting discouraged with the lack of progress and trying to leave the NPA. Apparently, once you're in, you're in for life.
