President Arroyo ordered selective bombardments of "terrorist cells," hours before her state visit to the United States. About 60 MILF rebels were killed when the military attacked Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao and North Cotabato. The army suffered only six wounded.

Detractors pointed out that the order was really launching another all-out war against the MILF, two weeks before the June 1 deadline (rather than when former President Joseph Estrada launched his two months before a deadline in 2000). They think that the military is just as incapable of solving the problem now was it was then. - Adam Geibel
