Without identifying who was behind it, the government says it uncovered and thwarted a plot to try and bribe officers and soldiers to stage a coup. Generals were being offered $183,000 and low ranking soldiers $913 to join the operation. The pitch was largely made via cell phone text messaging (a popular form of communications in the Philippines.)
