On January 9th there was an attempted coup in the Ivory Coast. A group of soldiers took over the radio center in the capital and began broadcasting their message. The president ordered military police to retake the radio center and this was quickly done. Twelve people died and 31 were arrested. The coup soldiers were apparently from the Moslem north and were angry at the lack of Moslem northerners in the government. This has been a growing issue.
