So Marc Ravalomanana is now president. And what does he do? On July 21 he announced an increase in the pay for government ministers, raising salaries from 300 dollars a month to 3500. A typical spreading of the largesse to supporters and henchmen? Maybe. There could be another angle. Increasing government salaries could also be a move to try to cut-down on corruption. AFP quoted Ravalomanana as saying "If ministers, who are the key to our development, are properly paid, there will be no more corruption." Lets see what happens here. (Austin Bay)
