An opinion poll in Russia showed that 55 percent of Russians support attacking the Pansiki Gorge in Georgia to eliminate Chechen rebel camps. A quarter of the respondents wanted this done with the cooperation of Georgia, 20 percent did not.

In Chechnya, rebel violence left four security personnel dead.
