Dissatisfied with the work of Russian firm RSK MiG in upgrading it's MiG-29 fighters, Bulgaria has cancelled the upgrade contract. RSK was months behind schedule on work that was begun in 2002. Moreover, work that was to be done in Bulgaria had been moved to Russia. Meanwhile, the Russian air force has also had to halt its MiG-29 upgrade program, mainly because of a shortage of money. The Russian upgrade was based on a more effective new radar system that cost a million dollars per aircraft.
