AFP reported that 27 Burundian government soldiers and five 
civilians died in August 6 when rebels ambushed a convoy southeast of Bujumbura, on Route Nationale 7. This follows reports on August 3 of more reports of rebel and government clashes in eastern Burundi. Western press sources report a firefight in Ruvigi province with at least 50 people killed.
