On April 5 Forces for Defense of Democracy (FDD) Hutu rebels killed five people and wounded four others in a road ambush. The attack took place at Muyange in the Nyanga lake district (southeast Burundi). A subsequent report said the five people (one of them a child) were executed by the rebels. On April 7 Burundian Army troops and an FDD force fought in the districts of Gishubi and Nyabiraba, south of the city of Gitega.
