The UN reported that on February 11 CNDD-FDD rebels infiltrated from the Kibira Forest and took up positions in the Rutegama, Mbuye and Kiganda communes (all in Muramvya Province). On February 12 the Burundian Army and the CNDD-FDD engaged in several firefights in each of these areas. The government claimed 20 rebels died in the firefights. There were no government casualties reported.
