Burundi claimed its armed forces killed 66 FDD Hutu rebels in a series of heavy firefights north of Bujumbura. The battles took place near the villages of Kavumu and Musenyi (Kibira forest area) in Muranvya province. The Burundian report said four Burundian soldiers were wounded. A subsequent report said four Burundian Army soldiers were killed in the battles. An FDD spokesman told AFP that the Burundian government claims were exaggerated but the fighting had been heavy.
