The Burundian government and various western sources reported an FDD group attacked a village in the Bukorokoro Hill area (north of Bujumbura). One report claimed the FDD group cut off the head of the village head man. A late report claimed that another FDD rebel unit struck another village outside Bujumbura. The claim was uncorroborated. A Burundian government spokesman told western journalists that it did appear since the ceasefire agreement (October 9) the FDD had quit attacking military targets. However, there were still raids against civilians. Despite the new ceasefire agreement, it appears fighting continues. The FDD leadership probably exerts limited control over many rebel bands. To pin it all on the FDD would be a mistake. The Burundian Army ahs a miserable track record for controlling its forces as well.
