Some one hundred UN troops surrounded the home of RUF leader Foday Sankoh. Via a cell phone, Sankoh told the media that UN troops had killed six of his men and that the UN soldiers had been killed as they tried to disarm RUF men by force. .

The incident took place at a disarmament camp 140 kilometers northeast of the capital. Over 10,000 RUF rebels refuse to disarm without receiving more money.
