The Sri Lankan Navy has established its first air wing in a bid to detect and intercept LTTE arms shipments. Three former Air Force officers have been commissioned as Naval Aviation officers, and a Sukanya offshore patrol vessel has been bought from India to carry the Navy's new Chetak light helicopter. (They could afford only one for now.) The Sri Lankan Navy also received two Reshef-class (SAAR-4) fast attack craft from the Israeli Navy.--Stephen V Cole
