Almost all of the tidal wave damage in Sri Lanka was to areas controlled by the LTTE rebels. The LTTE is a paranoid and very controlling organization, and was hostile to allowing government, and foreign, workers in, even to help with the damage. Over 30,000 Sri Lankans were killed, and over a million homeless. This is a major catastrophe for the LTTE, and the extent of the death and damage forced them to allow government and foreign aid in. The LTTE sees the government officials as spies, which may be true to some extent. Army intelligence will no doubt interview government relief workers later, to find out what is in areas the rebels have kept government officials
