Fresh and intense clashes claiming "many victims" have been reported between government forces and Sudan Liberation Army Movement (SLA-M) rebels in the western Darfur region over the past few days. While Chadian papers are reporting the fighting, Sudanese papers claim that Chad had closed its eastern borders to prevent infiltration of "armed groups" and stationed troops at frontier posts.
