The Ugandan government reports LRA rebels killed eight people in attacks in northern Uganda. Four Ugandan Army soldiers were killed in an ambush on the Pader-Kitgum road (on the way to Gulu). At least 50 LRA rebels staged the ambush. The LRA killed four civilians on July 6 in an attack on a crossroads called Corner Alango. It's located two kilometers from Kitgum.
Follow up on the 3 July attack by 200 LRA rebels on the Alero Protected Camp, the death toll was 17 civilians and 10 soldiers. Around 80 of the abducted people were released by 6 July, but there was still no trace of the remaining hostages (mostly children).
UPDF commander Major Issa Ssessanga and his two escorts were killed in an LRA ambush at Porogali, when their Land Rover was shot up on 7 July. Another three UDPF soldiers were wounded in the same attack, just three kilometers from the Porogali UDPF post. A total of 29 UPDF soldiers have been killed by LRA rebels between 9 June and 8 July, in attacks on Displaced Civilian camps and UPDF detachments, as well as road ambushes in Gulu, Kitgum and Pader. Meanwhile, 250 LRA rebels were reportedly killed since the beginning of the UDPF's Operation "Iron Fist". - Adam Geibel
