It took six months of fighting in northern Uganda, after chasing the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army) out of southern Sudan, but the army has declared the LRA defeated as an organization. The army says it has destroyed all known LRA camps and that only scattered bands of LRA are left. But according to army calculations, there are still 1,200 armed LRA members left out there. Back in the Spring, the army estimated there were 3,000 LRA fighters in Sudan and Uganda. The army claims to have killed 229 armed LRA members and captured 59. Many LRA fighters have been convinced to go back to civilian life. The army campaign also freed 1,025 teenagers forcibly recruited by the LRA. The LRA leadership are still at large.
