Uganda signed a preliminary peace agreement with the Uganda National Rescue Front II (UNRF II), a rebel faction that operates in northwest Uganda. UNRF II and Ugandan representatives met in the Ugandan town of Yumbe (near Sudan). UNRF is an odd lot. Some of the original UNRF members were former troops in Idi Amins army. They fled in 1979 when the Amin regime collapsed. UNRF claims it has 2000 fighters, but that figure is very suspect. The Ugandan Army said that it would integrate some UNRF II rebels into the national army. The figure the army will accept is 700. That figure may be more representative of UNRFs actual strength, but also strikes StrategyPage as being on the high side.
