Canadian courts ordered a delay of the extradition hearing of Moktar Haouari until 6 April so both prosecutors and defense attorneys would have time to study US evidence against him. Haouari was arrested on 10 Jan after he was linked to the Algerian bomb plot and arrested terrorist suspect Ahmed Ressam. Haouari's defense attorneys say the only evidence against him is the statement of another arrested suspect, Abdel Ghani Meskini, who gave his statement after eight hours of interrogation. Haouari arrived in Canada in 1993 on a forged French passport. When discovered, he applied for asylum on the grounds that the military government in Algeria would persecute him as a former activist for the Islamic Salvation Front.
