Two Egyptians living in Denmark, Mohamed Fahim and Abdel Soliman, were each awarded $16,800 damages by a Danish court on 15 March because they were wrongfully jailed as terrorist suspects in 1993-94. The men were suspected of involvement in the World Trade Center bombing, but were finally acquitted in 1996. They had asked for $171,000 and $114,000 in damages.--Stephen V Cole

March 22, 2000; Four members of the Japanese Red Army arrived in Japan on 18 March after being deported from Lebanon. They were immediately arrested. The four had been arrested several years ago when they entered Lebanon with forged documents en route to join guerrilla training camps there. The four are: Masao Adachi, Kazuo Tohira, Haruwo Wako, and Mariko Yamamoto. Because Lebanon has no extradition treaty with Japan, the four were expelled to Jordan, which handed them over to Japanese diplomats. A fifth member of the original group, Kozo Okamoto, was granted asylum in Lebanon. He was captured by Israel during the deadly massacre at Ben Gurion airport in 1972 and traded in 1985 for Israeli prisoners held by Palestinian guerrillas. Lebanon said he was granted asylum because he still suffered from "physical and psychological injuries sustained
