Border crossing checkpoints have been working overtime due to increased security. At Detroit alone, 234 volunteers from various police agencies have done thousands of hours of unpaid volunteer work to keep the system moving at all. The Federal government has refused to pay these volunteers, saying that the cities and counties must pay them. Hundreds of new customs agents have been hired but are weeks from completing their training.--Stephen V Cole
