The Lebanese terrorist group Hizbollah is offering $100,000 rewards for anyone who can kidnap an Israeli soldier and deliver him (or her) to a Hizbollah safe house in Lebanon or Gaza. Hizbollah wants the hostages as trade bait in negotiations to get thousands of Palestinian prisoners released. The Palestinians are being held because of their terrorist activities, but Hizbollah knows that Israel will go to great lengths to obtain the freedom of captured Israelis. Last week, on the Lebanese border, a group of Hizbollah gunmen attacked an Israeli outpost, in an attempt to capture an Israeli soldier. That attack failed, and Hizbollah admitted that this was a kidnap attempt, and then later denied it. Hizbollah has tried to kidnap Israeli soldiers in the past. But this time, Hizbollah expects Palestinian terrorists to have the best opportunities to carry out a successful snatch. Hizbollah was founded two decades ago with Iranian money and other assistance. Iran continues to supply Hizbollah with money, weapons and technical assistance. Hizbollah has the support of the Shia community in Lebanon, which comprises about 35 percent of the population.  Hizbollah used kidnapping, of foreigners, as a major weapon during the 1980s.
