Archives

France has laid the keel for the first of two new Scorpene-class diesel submarines being built for Chile. This sub will replace the old submarine Hyatt, which has been decommissioned. Hyatt is being stripped of parts to keep her sister ship O'Brien operating through 2006, when the second of the new Scorpene-class boats will be finished. --Stephen V Cole
