Iran: April 1, 2003

Troops and police are preventing anyone from crossing the border to fight for Saddam Hussein. Although most Iranians hate Saddam, there is much enthusiasm for "resisting the aggression of the infidels against Islam" (the coalition invading Iraq.) Some Islamic radicals have allowed their religious fervor to overcome their hatred for Saddam. However, the radicals have obeyed government orders to stay inside Iran. As reports of the lopsided casualty figures reach Iran, the radicals have still another reason not to cross the border. However, once Saddam is defeated, the radicals probably will be allowed into Iraq, and that could cause problems for coalition occupation forces.
