A Turkish Army spokesman said one Turk soldier and 11 Kurdish PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) guerillas died in a firefight near the town of Semdinli in Hakkari Province (southeastern Turkey). This appears to be one of the more serious clashes inside Turkey within the last month, and occurred despite jailed PKK leader Abdullah (Apo) Ocalan's renewed calls for a permanent peace deal.
