La Triviata
- As an economy measure, the 1932 budget proposal submitted to Congress by the Hoover Adminstration included a provision for decommissioning the Navy's entire battlefleet.
- Of 960 men assigned to Dalzell's Regiment (later the 1st Battalion, Staffordshire Regiment) in the West Indies between 1739 and 1745, all but 492 had perished from disease by the latter date.
- Between 1925 and 1940 more than 20 U.S. Army officers served in Japanese Army units, including some engaged in operations in China.
- On the eve of World War I a German arms dealer found a cache of 60,000 bayonets for the old French Chassepot rifle, that had been captured during the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871), and cleverly altered them so that they could fit the equally obsolete German Mauser 1871 rifle, which was still being issued to the Landwehr, thus realizing a tidy profit.
- Between 1756 and 1759, 33 Prussian generals were killed in action.
- The men of an Egyptian infantry battalion that served with the French Army in Mexico from the Spring of 1863 until early 1867 earned 56 awards of the medaille militaire and eleven of the Legion d'honneur.
- In mid-1814, during the Second British War (1812-1814), over 1,000 black New Yorkers volunteered to fight the British, but were rejected for military service.
- In order to help defray the costs of maintaining a bodyguard, in 1091 King Philip the Fair of France rented it out to Duke Robert II of Normandy, just then engaged in a war with his elder brother, King William II of England.
