- After World War II both the U.S. and Britain sold old German "Enigma" code machines to various minor powers, and then read the traffic.
- During the Seven Years’ War (1756-1763), women serving as nurses the British Army in North America received 6 pence a day, while laundresses got a shilling, twice as much.
- Ferdinand Foch was actually award a marshal's baton three times, by France in 1918, by Britain in 1919, and by Poland in 1923.
- The famous little person "General" Tom Thumb had a variety of costumes that he wore on the stage and even when visiting European royalty, though in deference to his host, for his audience with King Louis Phillippe of France, his sponsor, P.T. Barnum, thoughtfully reminded him not to wear his Napoleon costume.
- During the Mexican War, Pres. James K. Polk appointed 13 generals of volunteers, of whom fully nine were fellow Democrats.
- An attempt by Napoleon III to introduce wargaming and map exercises to the French Army in 1868 failed, because his generals claimed they could not understand them.
