- During the first two years of World War I, German submarine torpedoes missed approximately 58-percent of the time.
- Shortly after arriving in Vietnam in 1965, the 1st Cavalry Division captured one of the most unique anti-aircraft weapons of all time, a gigantic crossbow capable of firing six foot steel bolts.
- When, in 1610, the Russian people stormed the Kremlin to depose the "False Dimitri," the not only tortured the usurper of the tsarist dignity for a while before killing him in interesting ways, but afterwards burned his body and fired the ashed out of a cannon towards Poland, which had been his chief supporter.
- During combined operations exercises at Singapore in 1938, a raiding party from the heavy cruiser HMS Norfolk succeeded in capturing the famous Raffles hotel, and "liberating" its entire bar.
- The longest battle in history was certainly the Siege of Candia, in Crete, which began in 1648 and did not end until 1669, when the Turks finally succeeded in wresting the place from the Venetians.
- Only 52 percent of the 134 officers who commanded U.S. Army divisions in combat during World War II were West Point graduates.
- Having temporarily overrun the headquarters of the Neapolitan Army at the Battle of Velletri (August 11-12, 1744), some Croatian soldiers in Austrian service were ordered to bring back any papers they found, and so, assuming that their commander wanted only clean, useful paper, the troops discarded anything with writing on it.
- Late for a faculty meeting, an Army Reserve general who happened to be a professor at a small college, was asked by the dean, "What do they say to you in the Army when you are late to a meeting?" to which he replied, "Oh most of the time, they just say, 'We're ready to start when you are, general'."
